Most treatment decisions depend on hydration, symptoms, medical history, and examination findings. A clinician may recommend oral fluids, rest, and a suitable medicine for fever or pain. Do not take aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain medicines unless a clinician specifically tells you to, because they may increase bleeding risk. A blood test may help assess the illness or monitor changes. The period after fever improves still matters, because complications can develop then.
