What should you know about dengue rapid test?

These tests look for dengue-related markers in a blood sample. The marker detected can depend on how long the illness has been present, so an early or later test may not answer the same question. A negative result does not always exclude dengue when fever and other features fit. A clinician may review the result alongside examination findings and a blood count.

Record when symptoms began and tell the clinician about recent mosquito exposure or travel. Rest, drink fluids regularly, and use only medicines recommended for you. Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen unless a clinician specifically advises them, because dengue can be associated with bleeding. Arrange a GP Consultation if the result is unclear or symptoms continue.

Seek urgent medical care for severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding from the nose or gums, easy bruising, unusual sleepiness, confusion, breathing difficulty, or inability to drink. Fever may improve while a serious phase is developing, so worsening symptoms deserve attention even after a negative test.
