When do dengue mosquitoes bite?

Aedes mosquitoes can live near people and may bite indoors or outdoors. Daylight activity means that protection is useful during work, school, errands, and rest at home, not only overnight. A bite may be unnoticed, and timing cannot show whether a mosquito carried dengue.

Dengue illness can present with fever, headache, muscle aches, joint pain, chills, or easy bruising. These symptoms can have other causes, so exposure history helps a clinician interpret them but does not establish a diagnosis.

Use insect repellent as directed, wear long sleeves and trousers when practical, and keep doors, windows, and sleeping areas screened where possible. Remove standing water from household items and keep water storage covered.

After a suspected bite, record the date and watch your health. If symptoms appear, contact a GP Consultation service and describe where and when the exposure happened. Avoid donating blood while unwell and follow local medical advice.

Get urgent care for bleeding, severe stomach pain, persistent vomiting, unusual drowsiness, confusion, difficulty breathing, or inability to keep fluids down. Seek advice sooner for a child, older adult, pregnant person, or anyone with a significant long-term illness who develops a fever after mosquito exposure.
