How is dengue checked?

A clinician will ask when the fever began, where you have travelled or lived, whether mosquitoes may have bitten you, and which symptoms have appeared. Fever with headache, muscle aches, joint pain, chills, or easy bruising can prompt consideration of dengue, but these features overlap with other infections. Blood testing may be selected according to the timing of illness and local clinical practice. One result is interpreted alongside your examination and the course of symptoms.

Write down your temperature symptoms, recent travel, medicines, and any bleeding or reduced fluid intake before a GP Consultation. Drink small amounts frequently if tolerated and rest. Use mosquito protection while feverish so mosquitoes are less likely to pick up the virus and spread it. Take medicines only as advised, because some products may increase bleeding risk when dengue is possible.

Get urgent help for severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding, confusion, unusual sleepiness, breathing trouble, fainting, or difficulty drinking. These signs need prompt assessment regardless of whether a dengue test has already been done or is still pending.
