What should you know about dehydration lines under eyes?

The skin under the eyes is thin, so dryness, rubbing, lack of sleep, sun exposure, facial movement, and normal ageing can make fine lines more obvious. Dehydration may add a tight or crepey appearance, especially with thirst, dry mouth, headache, dizziness, darker urine, or reduced urination. Dark circles or puffiness have many possible causes and should not be read as a fluid measurement. Vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, and heat can cause dehydration even when the face looks unchanged.

Drink regularly within your health plan and avoid rubbing the area. Use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser around the orbital bone, keeping products out of the eyes, and wear sun protection. A cool compress may soothe irritation or puffiness. If illness is causing fluid loss, take small sips; oral rehydration may be useful for significant vomiting or diarrhoea. People with kidney, heart, or liver disease should check fluid advice before increasing intake.

Get urgent help for confusion, fainting, severe weakness, inability to keep fluids down, or very little urine. Seek prompt review for sudden one-sided swelling, eye pain, vision change, fever, or a rash. Persistent dryness or itching should also be assessed if it does not improve with gentle care, because dehydration is only one possible explanation.

Ask whether the under-eye change looks like dryness, irritation, allergy, infection, or another issue, and which products are safe near your eyes. Ask how to adjust fluids during illness if you have a long-term condition.
