What should you know about dandruff on nose?

Scale beside the nostrils or across the nasal creases may be white, yellow, or slightly greasy. Redness and itch commonly accompany facial seborrheic dermatitis, which can also affect the eyebrows, ears, and hairline. Dry air, frequent nose blowing, fragranced products, or harsh acne treatments may irritate the same area. A single flaky patch does not identify its cause; pain, pus, a sharply defined border, or a rash inside the nose points toward a different assessment.

Cleanse with a mild, fragrance-free product and pat dry rather than rubbing the creases. Apply a plain moisturiser that does not sting, and pause scrubs, acids, and heavily scented cosmetics on the area. Do not put scalp shampoo, antifungal cream, or steroid cream inside the nostrils unless a clinician has given exact instructions. If scalp flaking is present too, mention both areas when seeking advice because treatment may need to cover the pattern rather than one spot.

Seek prompt care for rapidly increasing redness, facial swelling, severe tenderness, fever, spreading warmth, or drainage. Get urgent help for swelling that affects breathing or the eyes. A routine dermatology review is sensible when the flakes keep returning, crack and bleed, or remain despite gentle cleansing and moisturising.
