What should you know about dandruff in my eyebrows?

The skin around the eyebrows can develop fine white or yellow scale, itch, redness, or a greasy coating. Seborrheic dermatitis commonly affects areas with oil-producing skin, including the eyebrows and sides of the nose. Eyebrow flaking can also follow a reaction to makeup, brow tint, cleanser, or hair-removal products. The appearance alone does not distinguish these causes, and eyelid involvement deserves extra care.

Pause new cosmetics and fragranced products near the brows. Clean gently with lukewarm water and avoid scraping scale from the skin or hairs. Keep shampoo and treatment away from the eyes; do not use a scalp product on the eyebrow area unless a clinician specifically directs it. A clinician may choose a suitable topical antifungal treatment or another option after examining the skin. Avoid applying steroid or medicated products close to the eyelids without advice.

Arrange an assessment for persistent or recurrent flakes, swelling, painful cracks, oozing, crusting, or loss of eyebrow hairs. Seek urgent help if the eye itself becomes painful, vision changes, or swelling makes it difficult to open the eye. Those features need more than routine dandruff care.
