Daily headaches and fatigue: what to know

Short answer
Daily headaches with fatigue can have several causes, including poor sleep, dehydration, infection, stress, anaemia or medicine effects, so a persistent pattern deserves clinical assessment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the combination may reflect
Head pain and low energy often occur together when sleep is disrupted, fluid intake is low, meals are irregular or the body is fighting an infection. Emotional strain and burnout can also affect sleep and pain sensitivity. Anaemia, coeliac disease, kidney disease and other conditions may cause fatigue with headache, but symptoms alone cannot identify the cause.
Note whether the headache is new, where it is felt, how it develops and whether light, movement, fever, nausea or visual changes accompany it. Record sleep, fluids, meals, caffeine, alcohol and medicines. This pattern helps a clinician decide whether examination or testing is appropriate.
Useful steps while arranging a review
Keep a simple symptom diary and aim for a consistent sleep routine, regular meals and adequate fluids. Reduce alcohol and avoid repeatedly taking painkillers beyond label directions, because frequent use can perpetuate headaches. Rest in a quiet, dim room when needed, but return gradually to normal activity if movement does not worsen symptoms.
Arrange a primary-care appointment when headaches recur daily, fatigue limits work or study, or the pattern continues despite basic measures. Mention recent travel, sick contacts, dietary changes, bleeding, snoring, mood changes and all medicines or supplements.
When headache needs urgent attention
Seek emergency care for a sudden, unusually severe headache, new weakness or numbness, trouble speaking, confusion, fainting, a seizure, severe vision change, stiff neck with fever, or repeated vomiting. Seek prompt medical help after a head injury or when headache is accompanied by chest pain or difficulty breathing.
A new headache during pregnancy, in an older adult, or in someone with a weakened immune system also needs timely clinical advice. Do not drive yourself if confusion, fainting or major visual symptoms are present.
Questions to take to an appointment
Ask whether your symptom pattern suggests checking blood count, thyroid function, hydration or another cause; whether any medicine may contribute; and which warning signs should change your plan. Bring your diary and a full list of prescribed and non-prescribed products.

Questions people ask
Can dehydration cause headache and fatigue?
Yes. Low fluid intake, fluid loss or illness can contribute to both symptoms, although ongoing or severe symptoms need assessment for other causes.
Should I take a painkiller every day?
Do not use painkillers more often than the label or clinician advises. Frequent use can worsen recurring headaches, so discuss a safer plan if you need them repeatedly.
