What should you know about cupping therapy for pimples?

Suction can pull on inflamed skin and leave temporary circular marks. A pimple is already affected by inflammation or a blocked follicle; squeezing, scraping or puncturing it can spread irritation and delay healing. Wet cupping adds open skin and blood exposure, so it is particularly unsuitable for active facial lesions unless a qualified clinician has a specific reason.

Acne-like bumps can also come from folliculitis, irritation, rosacea or another skin condition. Treating every bump with cupping may obscure the pattern a dermatologist needs to see. Avoid cups over open spots, crusts, cold sores, eczema, sunburn or skin treated with irritating products.

Use a gentle cleanser, avoid picking, and choose non-comedogenic skin products when possible. A pharmacist or dermatologist can help match treatment to the type of pimples, their location and whether they leave dark marks or scars. Do not stop prescribed skin treatment to make room for cupping without discussing it.
