What should you know about cryotherapy and psoriasis?

Psoriasis is an immune-mediated condition that can cause raised, red, scaly plaques, dryness, itching, cracking, peeling, or soreness. Cryotherapy is designed to destroy or remove selected tissue through freezing, such as a diagnosed lesion. It does not address the inflammatory process driving psoriasis. Skin trauma can also trigger new psoriasis in the injured area, so a freezing procedure should not be used on a plaque without a clear specialist reason.

A new or changing spot may resemble psoriasis but represent another condition. Diagnosis may require examination and sometimes a sample, particularly when one lesion behaves differently from the rest of the rash.
