COVID dry cough: what to know

A dry cough produces little or no mucus and may feel scratchy, tight, or triggered by talking, cold air, or lying down. COVID-19 can inflame the lining of the breathing passages, leaving the cough reflex sensitive even as other symptoms settle. A cough alone cannot confirm COVID-19, and a positive test does not explain every ongoing cough.

Seek urgent medical help for severe breathlessness, blue or grey lips, new confusion, fainting, or chest pain that is severe or persistent.
