Coughing and Body Aches

Influenza and COVID-19 commonly produce cough with tiredness, feverishness, headache, or widespread aches. Other infections can cause a similar combination, and symptoms alone cannot reliably identify the cause. Travel, insect exposure, unpasteurised dairy, or contact with sick people may change the assessment; illnesses such as Malaria, Dengue Fever, or Brucellosis need specific clinical consideration in the right setting. Persistent aches after an infection can have other explanations, including Long COVID or a non-infectious condition.

Rest, drink fluids regularly, and choose light meals as tolerated. Follow the label or clinician’s instructions for any pain or fever medicine, checking first if you have liver, kidney, stomach, or medication concerns. Stay home while acutely unwell and improve ventilation around others. Consider local advice about testing for respiratory infections, especially after a relevant exposure. Seek medical review if symptoms are worsening, lasting longer than expected, or making normal activity difficult.

Get emergency help for severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, blue or grey lips, confusion, collapse, or inability to keep fluids down. Arrange prompt assessment for a persistent high fever, severe weakness, stiff neck, unusual rash, dehydration, or worsening cough.
