What should you know about constipation 2 weeks after c section?

Some bloating can occur during recovery, but symptoms that worsen rather than gradually settle need attention. A clinician may ask when you last passed stool and gas, review your medicines, examine your abdomen and check the wound. Hypothyroidism or irritable bowel syndrome can affect bowel habits too, but constipation after surgery has several possible explanations.

Take short, gentle walks if your surgical team allows, drink regularly, and use the toilet when you feel the urge. Add fibre gradually and avoid forceful straining; supporting your abdomen with a pillow may feel more comfortable when coughing or moving, but it does not replace medical advice.

Ask your surgical or maternity team about a stool softener or laxative compatible with your medicines and feeding plans. Do not stop prescribed pain relief or iron on your own. Keep track of bowel movements, gas, vomiting, pain and wound changes.

Seek urgent care for severe or increasing abdominal pain, a distended abdomen, repeated vomiting, inability to pass gas or stool, faintness, heavy bleeding, fever, or a red, opening or draining incision. New breathing difficulty or chest pain also needs emergency help.
