Cog lifting threads: what to know

Small barbs grip soft tissue so a trained clinician can reposition selected areas, such as the cheek, jawline, or brow. The procedure is different from a surgical facelift: it uses needle or cannula entry points and does not remove loose skin. Early swelling, bruising, tightness, asymmetry, or dimpling can occur while tissues settle. The final appearance depends on skin laxity, tissue weight, thread placement, and healing.

The thread material is often Polydioxanone Thread. Cog designs are intended to provide mechanical support; they do not replace volume restoration when loss of facial fullness is the main concern.

At consultation, discuss medicines and supplements that affect bleeding, previous procedures, active skin infection, dental work, and the result you want. Follow the clinic’s instructions about cleansing, sleeping position, facial movement, exercise, and pressure during recovery. Keep entry points clean and avoid manipulating a thread or trying to correct a dimple yourself. Contact the treating clinician promptly for worsening pain, spreading redness, warmth, drainage, fever, a visible thread, marked asymmetry, or skin that becomes pale or dusky. Sudden swelling affecting breathing or swallowing needs emergency care. These signs need assessment for infection, tissue injury, or another complication.

Ask which facial layer and areas will be treated, what the threads can and cannot lift, how many entry points are planned, how recovery will be managed, and what happens if a thread becomes visible or the result is uneven.
