What does cloudy urine mean?

A pale haze after waking or after sweating can occur when urine is more concentrated; drinking fluids may restore its usual appearance. Cloudiness can also come from crystals, vaginal discharge, semen, or harmless changes in the sample container. Burning when passing urine, urgency, frequent trips, lower abdominal discomfort, or an unusual smell can accompany a urinary tract infection. Notice when the change began, whether it appears each time, and whether colour, smell, pain, or urinary frequency changed too. A clean-catch urine sample can help a clinician check for infection, blood, crystals, or other findings. Avoid using leftover antibiotics, because the right treatment depends on the cause.
