Cloudy urine all the time

Haze can result from concentrated urine, minerals, mucus, cells, blood, or genital fluids. If it is present in freshly passed urine across several occasions, contamination or a temporary change becomes less likely, and a clinician may need to examine a clean urine sample.

Burning, urgency, frequent urination, lower abdominal pain, or a strong smell can accompany a Urinary Tract Infection. Fever, chills, vomiting, or pain in the side or back can signal a Kidney Infection. Low fluid intake may contribute through Dehydration, but drinking more should not be used to explain away ongoing symptoms.

Note when the cloudiness began, whether it appears in every sample, and any change in colour, smell, pain, frequency, or volume. Drink your usual amount and avoid deliberately overhydrating before testing.

A clinician may request a clean-catch urine sample and decide whether further urine testing or an examination is needed. Bring a list of medicines and mention pregnancy possibility, menstrual bleeding, discharge, or recent urinary infections.

Arrange an appointment for urine that remains cloudy without an obvious temporary explanation. Seek urgent care for fever with back or side pain, repeated vomiting, severe pain, confusion, inability to pass urine, or visible blood unrelated to menstrual bleeding.

Ask what could be causing the persistent appearance, whether a clean urine test is needed, and which new symptoms should prompt same-day care.
