Cloudy urine after your period

If cloudiness continues after bleeding has stopped, or comes with burning, frequent urination, lower abdominal discomfort, or a strong smell, a Urinary Tract Infection is one possibility. Fever, chills, nausea, or pain in the side or back can suggest the infection has travelled towards the kidneys; Kidney Infection needs prompt medical attention.

Notice whether the change disappears after your period ends and after you drink fluids normally. Collecting a clean, midstream urine sample can reduce contamination from vaginal blood or discharge if testing is needed.

Do not take leftover antibiotics based on appearance alone. A clinician can decide whether a urine test, examination, or another check is appropriate, especially if symptoms return with later cycles.

Arrange medical advice if cloudiness lasts beyond the menstrual bleeding, keeps recurring, or is joined by pain or urinary burning. Seek urgent care for fever with back or side pain, vomiting, marked weakness, or visible blood that is not explained by your period.

Ask whether the sample should be repeated after bleeding has fully stopped, whether urine testing is needed, and which symptoms would suggest a kidney infection rather than simple contamination.
