Cloudy, strong-smelling urine: what to know

Cloudiness means urine is carrying material that makes it look less clear, such as salts, crystals, mucus or cells. Strong smell commonly reflects concentrated urine, but foods, supplements and medicines can change odour too. A urinary tract infection can present with both cloudiness and an unpleasant smell, sometimes before pain appears.
