What should you know about cloudy pale urine?

Pale urine commonly reflects regular fluid intake, but it can still look cloudy when crystals, mucus, cells, or skin and genital secretions are present. A sample left standing can also appear different from urine observed immediately. A urinary tract infection may cause burning, frequent urination, urgency, pressure, or an unusual smell. A kidney infection can include fever, chills, nausea, and pain in the side or back. Observe a fresh sample in good light and note whether the cloudiness happens repeatedly. Keep your fluid intake steady rather than forcing large amounts, unless a clinician has advised a restriction.
