What should you know about clindamycin solution for folliculitis?

Folliculitis is inflammation around hair follicles and can produce small red bumps, pustules, tenderness, or itch. Bacteria are one possible cause; friction, shaving, ingrown hairs, yeast, and other triggers can produce a similar appearance. Clindamycin is a topical antibiotic, so it targets susceptible bacteria rather than every type of folliculitis. Persistent bumps on the scalp or body may need a different diagnosis or treatment.

Use the prescribed amount on clean, dry skin and follow the schedule given by your clinician. Wash your hands before and after application, keep it away from eyes and lips, and let the solution dry before covering the area. Do not share the bottle or apply it to broken skin unless instructed. Reduce shaving, rubbing, tight clothing, and greasy products around the affected follicles while the skin settles.

Contact your clinician if the bumps spread, become painful, drain extensively, or fail to improve with the prescribed plan. Seek urgent advice for fever, rapidly increasing redness, red streaks, facial swelling, or feeling very unwell. Stop and seek prompt medical guidance for severe diarrhoea or a widespread rash after using clindamycin, because these may signal a significant medicine reaction.
