What should you know about clear skin tag?

Skin tags commonly appear in folds such as the neck, underarms, groin, or beneath the breasts. They may be smooth or slightly wrinkled and can rub against jewellery or clothing. A clinician may inspect the shape, colour, surface, and attachment to distinguish a skin tag from a wart, mole, cyst, or another lesion. A dark, firm, rapidly changing, bleeding, or persistently painful growth should not be assumed to be a tag.

Removal is optional unless the lesion catches, bleeds after rubbing, or causes discomfort. A qualified clinician may remove a confirmed tag by snipping, freezing it with cryotherapy, or using electrosurgery. The choice depends on its size, attachment, location, and your skin type. Do not tie off, cut, burn, or apply unapproved products at home, because this can cause bleeding, infection, scarring, or delay diagnosis.

Book an examination if a growth is new, changing in colour or shape, repeatedly bleeding, crusting, ulcerating, or painful. Seek prompt care for spreading redness, pus, fever, or bleeding that does not settle with firm pressure. After removal, follow wound-care instructions and contact the clinic if pain, swelling, warmth, or discharge increases instead of improving.
