What should you know about clear black spots on face?

A black spot may be an open comedone, where oil and shed skin cells sit in an open pore. It may instead be a healing mark left after a pimple or irritation, a hair follicle affected by shaving, or a small scab. Acne can cause blackheads and pimples; folliculitis and razor bumps may produce spots around hairs. Perioral dermatitis and rosacea usually have different patterns, but facial redness or bumps can be mistaken for acne. Appearance, texture, location, and timing help separate these possibilities.

Cleanse gently, avoid picking or squeezing, and use a non-comedogenic moisturiser and daily broad-spectrum sunscreen. If spots are raised and pore-like, a clinician may discuss acne treatment or a topical routine; LED light therapy may be considered for selected acne concerns, but it is not a diagnosis or a universal solution. Pause new fragranced products and harsh exfoliants if the area stings. Do not use strong bleaching or peeling products on an unidentified spot.
