What should you know about clear and cloudy urine?

Clear urine often reflects good fluid intake, while darker urine may be more concentrated. Cloudiness can come from crystals, mucus, cells or a sample that has stood for a while. A change in appearance is not enough to diagnose an illness. A urinary tract infection can present with cloudy urine alongside burning, urgency or frequent urination; a kidney infection may present with fever and pain in the side or back.
