Short answer

Clairderm microdermabrasion is a surface exfoliation treatment that uses a device to smooth the outer skin layer, with aftercare focused on reducing irritation and sun exposure.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How the treatment works

Microdermabrasion gently abrades the outermost layer of skin while a device helps remove loosened cells. It is used for a dull or uneven surface and may make skin feel smoother. The treatment does not remove deep lesions or diagnose a changing mole. Temporary redness, tightness, dryness, sensitivity, or mild swelling can occur, particularly on reactive skin. A consultation should cover active acne, eczema, rosacea, cold sores, recent sun exposure, and products or medicines that may make the skin more sensitive.

Before and after a session

Follow the provider’s instructions about pausing irritating exfoliants, retinoids, or hair-removal treatments. Arrive with clean skin and disclose recent procedures and any history of easy scarring or pigment changes. Afterwards, use a gentle cleanser, bland moisturiser, and broad-spectrum sunscreen as advised. Avoid picking, harsh scrubs, heat, and strongly fragranced products until the skin settles. A chemical peel is a different exfoliating approach; a qualified practitioner can explain which option fits your skin and goals.

When to seek care

Contact the treating clinic if redness becomes increasingly painful, swelling worsens, blisters form, or the skin develops spreading crusting or discharge. Seek urgent help for facial swelling with breathing difficulty or widespread blistering. Dark or light patches that persist should be assessed, especially after sun exposure or in skin prone to pigment changes. Do not continue sessions over an active infection or inflamed rash until a clinician has reviewed it.

Questions for your doctor

What skin concern is this procedure expected to address? Should I pause any products or medicines beforehand? How will you adjust treatment for sensitive or darker skin? What aftercare and sun protection do you recommend, and which reactions should prompt a call?

Questions people ask

Is microdermabrasion suitable for every rash?

No. Active inflammation, infection, or a flare of a sensitive skin condition may require postponement and clinical review.

Can microdermabrasion treat a changing mole?

No. A changing, bleeding, or unusual mole needs medical assessment rather than cosmetic exfoliation.
