Short answer

A Chummie Premium bedwetting alarm detects moisture, sounds or vibrates to wake a child, and supports gradual nighttime dryness with consistent use.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How the alarm works

A sensor is placed in the child’s underwear or sleepwear. When the first urine reaches the sensor, the alarm alerts the child and a parent can help them get up, finish in the toilet, change the sensor if needed, and reset the unit. The aim is to build awareness of a full bladder during sleep, rather than simply relying on an alarm to keep the bed dry.

Progress can be uneven. Some children wake to the sound, while others respond better to vibration or a combined setting. Bedwetting is common in childhood and is not a child’s fault. An alarm may be less suitable if the child cannot hear it, strongly dislikes wearing it, or the family cannot support repeated nighttime waking.

Using it at home

Explain the plan when the child is awake and let them practise attaching the sensor and switching the alarm off. Keep the toilet easy to reach, use a waterproof mattress cover, and have spare sleepwear ready. Encourage regular daytime toilet trips and normal fluids rather than restricting drinks severely.

Adults may need to wake the child fully at first. Praise actions such as responding to the alarm and helping reset it, not only dry nights. Follow the device instructions for cleaning, battery checks, sensor placement, and safe volume. If there is no useful progress after a consistent trial, ask a clinician whether another approach fits.

When to seek care

Arrange medical advice if bedwetting starts again after a long dry period, or if it comes with daytime accidents, pain or burning when passing urine, fever, unusual thirst, weight change, constipation, loud snoring, or pauses in breathing. These features can point to a urinary problem, bowel issue, sleep-related breathing problem, or another condition that needs assessment.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether the pattern fits uncomplicated bedwetting, whether constipation or sleep symptoms could be contributing, and how long to try an alarm before reviewing it. Discuss any daytime urinary symptoms, medicines, developmental concerns, and what to do if the child becomes distressed or sleep-deprived.
