What transmission involves

The virus can pass when an infected person coughs, sneezes, talks, or shares close indoor space with someone who has not developed immunity. Touching liquid from a fresh blister can also spread it. A person may transmit chickenpox before the rash is obvious, so exposure can happen before anyone recognises the illness. Chickenpox itself is caused by the varicella virus; the same virus can later reactivate as shingles, which spreads differently. How to limit spread

Keep the unwell person away from pregnant people, newborn babies, and anyone with a weakened immune system until a clinician confirms it is safe to mix again. Avoid sharing towels, clothing, bedding, and close personal contact. Wash hands after caring for the rash, and clean surfaces that may have blister fluid on them.
