Ask about vaccination after an exposure if the person is not known to be immune; suitability depends on age, health, and pregnancy. Do not pop blisters, and keep nails short if itching starts.

Seek prompt advice if symptoms develop after exposure and the person is pregnant, immunocompromised, a newborn, or has significant lung disease. Get urgent help for breathing difficulty, confusion, severe headache, repeated vomiting, or a rapidly worsening rash. A clinician should also review a fever with a new blistering eruption when the diagnosis is uncertain.
