Cherry angioma popped: what to do now

Because a cherry angioma contains small blood vessels, scratching or catching its surface can open it and cause bleeding. A loose crust may form afterward. An open spot can also be a different lesion or an irritated area, so do not assume the cause from bleeding alone, particularly if the appearance was changing before it opened.

Wash your hands, place clean gauze over the area, and hold steady pressure without lifting to check too soon. Once bleeding has stopped, gently clean around it and use a simple dressing to prevent rubbing. Do not pick the crust, apply harsh chemicals, or attempt to cut off the remaining tissue.
