How to Remove a Cherry Angioma

The name cherry angioma describes a blood-vessel lesion that may appear as a red, purple, or dark pinpoint mark. It can be flat or raised and may bleed if scraped. Appearance alone is not always enough to distinguish it from another lesion, particularly when it is changing. A skin examination helps decide whether cosmetic treatment is appropriate or whether further assessment is needed.

At consultation, tell the clinician about blood-thinning medicines, bleeding problems, keloid scars, recent tanning, and skin products used on the area. Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment may be considered for a superficial vascular mark; Electrosurgery may be suitable when controlled heat can treat the lesion. Follow the clinic’s instructions about cleaning, dressing, sun protection, and avoiding friction while the skin recovers. Never try to remove it with a needle, thread, acid, or household device.

Get the lesion reviewed before removal if it is growing rapidly, has an irregular outline, changes colour, forms a persistent crust or sore, or bleeds without obvious injury. After treatment, contact the clinic for worsening pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, or bleeding that does not settle with gentle pressure.
