What should you know about Celluma LED light therapy?

Short answer
Celluma LED light therapy uses red, blue, or near-infrared light to support selected skin goals without breaking the skin.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

- Main principle
- Selected wavelengths deliver light energy to the treatment area
What Celluma therapy means
The device is a flexible LED panel placed near the treatment area. Light energy reaches the skin without the heat or tissue removal associated with some laser procedures. Blue light is commonly discussed for acne-related concerns, while red and near-infrared light are used for inflammation support and general skin recovery. Results vary with the concern, skin type, device settings, and regularity of sessions.
LED therapy is not the same as a tanning lamp and should not be used to treat an unexplained rash, infection, or changing lesion. Read more about the [LED Phototherapy Panel](/technology/led-phototherapy-panel/) and [LED Light Therapy](/treatments/laser-and-energy/led-light-therapy/).
How to approach a session
Begin with clean, dry skin and follow the device instructions for eye protection, distance, session length, and frequency. Do not add photosensitising products or medicines to a routine without checking with a clinician. Take a baseline photograph in similar lighting if you want to judge gradual changes, and stop if you develop marked heat, blistering, swelling, or persistent discomfort.
For breakouts, LED may sit alongside a broader plan for [Acne](/conditions/acne/) or [Pimples](/symptoms/pimples/); it does not replace assessment of painful, deep, or recurring lesions.
When to seek care
Arrange a dermatology assessment for a rapidly changing spot, spreading redness, pus, severe pain, eye symptoms, or a rash that does not settle. Seek prompt medical advice after a session if swelling affects breathing or vision, or if a burn develops. A clinician can also review medicines and conditions that make light exposure unsuitable.
Questions for your doctor
Which light setting fits my concern, and what should I realistically monitor? Could any of my medicines or skincare products increase light sensitivity? How will this fit with my current acne or pigment treatment?

Questions people ask
Can Celluma LED therapy treat acne?
It may support care for some acne-related inflammation, but persistent or severe acne needs an individual treatment plan.
Is Celluma suitable for everyone?
No. Medicines, eye conditions, photosensitivity, and an undiagnosed skin change can alter whether it is appropriate.
