Celery Juice for Perioral Dermatitis: What to Know

Perioral dermatitis causes clusters of small red bumps, roughness, burning, or sensitivity around the mouth and sometimes near the nose or eyes. It is not the same as ordinary acne, even when the bumps look like pimples. Drinks and foods can affect people differently, but celery juice does not address the skin inflammation directly. A new drink may also trigger digestive symptoms or an allergic reaction in some people, so stop it if you develop swelling, hives, or breathing difficulty.

Keep skincare simple: wash gently, avoid scrubs and fragranced products, and use a bland moisturiser if needed. Do not apply topical corticosteroids to the area unless a clinician specifically directs you, because they can worsen or prolong this condition. A dermatologist may consider topical antibiotic therapy or, when appropriate, oral antibiotics for acne-related inflammatory patterns. Do not pick the bumps. Take a list of products used around the mouth, including toothpaste, cosmetics, and steroid creams, to the appointment.

Arrange a medical review if the rash persists, spreads toward the eyes, becomes painful, or interferes with eating or daily activities. Seek urgent help for facial or throat swelling, wheezing, faintness, or rapidly developing hives after celery juice or any other exposure. Eye pain or vision changes need prompt assessment. Earlier review can prevent repeated self-treatment from keeping the skin irritated.
