What causes dengue?

The virus enters through the bite and can produce a sudden fever, headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle aches, joint pain, chills, nausea, or a rash. Easy bruising or bleeding can be a warning sign. Symptoms may overlap with other infections, so fever after mosquito exposure does not identify the cause by itself. A person can feel worse around the time the fever changes, making monitoring especially important.

Seek urgent care for severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding from the nose or gums, easy bruising, black stools, extreme sleepiness, restlessness, breathing difficulty, faintness, or cold skin.
