What should you know about cause croup?

The infection can begin like a Common Cold, with a runny nose, sore throat, mild fever, or cough. Swelling around the voice box and windpipe narrows the upper airway, so a child may develop a harsh barking cough, hoarseness, or a high-pitched noise when breathing in. Symptoms can be worse at night or when a child is upset and crying.
