What should you know about cat eye discharge brown?

When tears or mucus dry, they can leave a brown crust at the eyelid margin. Irritation, allergy, or conjunctivitis may increase watering and mucus. Allergic conjunctivitis tends to cause itching and watery eyes, while conjunctivitis can cause redness and sticky discharge. Brown colour alone does not identify the cause or prove that an infection is present.

Record whether the discharge appears after sleep or keeps returning, and whether it affects one eye or both. Pain, light sensitivity, swelling, or a change in vision changes the urgency.

Clean your hands, then soften the crust with clean moistened cotton or gauze. Wipe gently from the inner corner outward and use a new piece for each pass and each eye.
