What should you know about cardiofax ecg machine?

An ECG machine detects electrical signals generated by each heartbeat and displays them as waveforms. A clinician can review the heart rate, rhythm and timing of electrical activity. The recording may help investigate palpitations, chest discomfort, breathlessness, dizziness or fainting, and can be compared with earlier ECGs when available.

During the test, adhesive electrodes are placed on the chest and sometimes the arms and legs. You need to lie still and breathe normally while the recording is made. The procedure does not send electricity into your body. Skin preparation may be needed if hair, sweat or lotion affects electrode contact.

Wear clothing that allows access to the chest and tell the healthcare professional about implanted devices, medicines and recent symptoms. Avoid applying oily creams to the skin beforehand. Keep still and avoid talking during the brief recording, because movement can create marks that make the tracing harder to interpret.

The printed tracing is not a diagnosis by itself. A clinician interprets it alongside your symptoms, examination and medical history. A normal recording may not explain symptoms that come and go, so additional monitoring or testing may sometimes be considered.

An ECG appointment should not delay urgent help for chest pressure, severe breathlessness, collapse, sudden weakness or a sustained fast or irregular heartbeat. Call emergency services for severe or rapidly worsening symptoms. If symptoms are milder but recurring, arrange a clinical review and describe when they start, how long they last and what you are doing at the time.

Ask why an ECG has been recommended, whether the tracing was normal or needs review, and whether you need a repeat ECG or longer heart monitoring. Ask how your medicines, symptoms and any previous heart condition affect the interpretation, and which warning signs should lead you to seek urgent help.
