Canesten for Folliculitis

Folliculitis is inflammation around hair follicles. It can follow friction, shaving, ingrown hairs, bacteria, yeast, or occlusive products. Small itchy, uniform bumps on the chest, back, shoulders, or scalp can suggest a yeast-related pattern, but location and appearance are not enough to diagnose it. Canesten is an antifungal product, so it will not treat bacterial folliculitis or simple razor irritation.

Pause shaving or waxing over the affected area and avoid picking the bumps. Wash gently, rinse well, and use clean towels and loose clothing. Do not share razors or towels. Before applying Canesten, check the exact product, age suitability, affected site, and directions with a pharmacist or clinician, especially if the skin is broken or the rash is extensive. Stop and seek advice if burning or irritation becomes marked. Do not combine several medicated creams without guidance. A clinician may instead recommend topical antibiotic therapy or another approach when bacteria or a non-infectious trigger is more likely.

Arrange review if bumps are spreading, recurring, deep, very tender, draining, or leaving scars. Seek prompt care for fever, rapidly increasing redness, facial or eye involvement, or feeling unwell. Scalp symptoms with painful swelling or hair loss also deserve assessment. Diagnosis may require examining the pattern and your recent shaving, sweating, medicines, or product history.

Ask whether the folliculitis is fungal, bacterial, or irritation-related; whether Canesten is appropriate; how long to try it; and which shaving or skin-care changes can prevent another flare.
