Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA): What to Know

Calcium hydroxylapatite, or CaHA, is an injectable filler material that can add structure while supporting collagen production. It is placed beneath the skin by a trained medical professional for selected facial or other contouring goals. The result depends on the product, injection depth, anatomy, and the concern being treated.

CaHA consists of mineral-like microspheres carried in a gel. The gel can create early fullness, while the material may provide a framework that encourages the skin to make collagen over time. It is different from a treatment designed only to relax muscle. Depending on the formulation and location, it may be used for definition, support, or improvement in the appearance of lax skin; it is not suitable for every area or purpose.

Start with a consultation that covers your goals, previous fillers, allergies, medicines, dental work, skin conditions, and any history of delayed swelling. Ask which CaHA formulation is proposed and whether it is being used as a conventional filler or a diluted collagen biostimulator. Seek urgent medical care for vision changes, severe headache, unusual weakness, or skin that becomes pale, dusky, or intensely painful after treatment, because injection complications require rapid assessment.
