Calcified cyst under the skin: what should you know?

An epidermoid cyst forms beneath the skin and often contains keratin, a protein found in the outer skin layer. The lump may be round, slow-growing, and attached to the skin surface. Thick contents, inflammation, or mineral deposits can make it feel unusually firm; however, a hard texture does not prove that a cyst is calcified.
