What should you know about caecal diverticulitis?

The caecum sits on the lower right side of the abdomen. Inflammation there can cause localised or spreading abdominal pain, tenderness, fever, nausea, or a change in bowel movements. Right-sided pain can resemble appendicitis, so symptoms alone cannot reliably distinguish the two. A clinician may examine your abdomen and arrange blood tests or imaging to clarify the cause and look for complications.

Arrange medical advice for new, persistent, or worsening abdominal pain, especially when fever or vomiting is present. Take only medicines recommended for you, and ask before using laxatives or anti-inflammatory painkillers. Until assessed, drink fluids if you can keep them down and choose light foods.
