What should you know about burn face scar?

Scarring forms as injured skin repairs itself. A scar may feel firm or itchy, sit above or below the surrounding skin, or pull when you smile, blink, or open your mouth. Colour can be pink, darker, lighter, or uneven. Fresh scars may continue to soften and change, while a tight scar near an eyelid, nostril, or mouth can affect movement and deserves careful examination.

The appearance of a scar does not show its full depth. A clinician will consider the original burn, current flexibility, symptoms, skin colour, and functional effects before suggesting treatment.

Once the wound has closed, follow the wound-care plan, moisturise as advised, avoid picking, and protect the area from sunlight. Gentle massage may be recommended for selected healed scars, but not over open or infected skin. A dermatologist or surgeon may discuss fractional laser treatment, scar revision surgery, or a skin graft when texture, contraction, or function requires more involved care.

Seek urgent care for a scar or wound with spreading redness, warmth, pus, fever, rapidly worsening pain, or sudden swelling. Arrange specialist review if the scar restricts blinking, eating, speaking, breathing through the nose, or normal facial movement. A scar that repeatedly breaks down, bleeds, or develops a new firm area should also be examined.
