What should you know about bump on lash line?

A sore red spot at the lash base may be a stye involving a lash follicle or nearby gland. A hard, deeper, less painful lump can arise when an oil gland becomes blocked. Crusting, flakes, itch, or irritation along several lashes may fit eyelid-edge inflammation. Eye discharge or Red Eye suggests that the surrounding eye may also be irritated. These descriptions cannot replace an examination, particularly if the bump is unusual or keeps returning.

Use clean hands and a warm compress over the closed eye for comfort. Clean away loosened crust gently with clean water; do not rub the lid. Avoid squeezing the bump, sharing face towels, or using old eye makeup. Leave contact lenses out until the eye feels normal. If symptoms do not improve, or the lump affects the lid shape or vision, book a GP Consultation so the lid and eye surface can be checked.

Get urgent help for a sudden change in vision, severe eye pain, painful eye movements, marked light sensitivity, injury, or swelling that extends around the eye. Fever or feeling very unwell alongside increasing eyelid redness also warrants prompt review. Arrange an examination for a bump that bleeds, causes nearby lash loss, grows, or remains despite sensible care.

Ask whether the lump involves a lash follicle, an oil gland, or the eyelid margin, and what treatment is appropriate. Tell the clinician when it began, whether it is painful, and whether there is crusting, discharge, contact-lens use, or a history of similar bumps. Ask how to prevent recurrence and which warning signs require earlier review.
