What should you know about Botox shots?

A clinician places small injections into selected muscles using Botulinum Toxin Type A. The material interrupts nerve signals that trigger muscle contraction, which can soften movement-related lines such as forehead lines or Crow's Feet. It does not fill hollows, restore lost volume, or improve every type of wrinkle. The visible effect develops gradually and varies with muscle strength, facial anatomy, dose, and placement. Temporary tenderness, small bumps, bruising, headache, or a tight sensation can occur around treated areas. Your medical history, medicines, allergies, pregnancy plans, and previous reactions help determine whether the treatment is appropriate.

Tell the injector about neuromuscular conditions, previous facial procedures, medicines, and any infection or rash near the planned sites. Arrive with clean skin and follow the clinic's specific instructions. Afterward, avoid pressing or massaging the treated areas unless your clinician tells you otherwise, and follow their advice about exercise, heat, and cosmetics. Do not judge the final appearance immediately because early swelling and uneven muscle activity can change the result. Contact the clinic promptly for increasing pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, significant swelling, or a new rash. Seek urgent care for difficulty breathing or swallowing, widespread hives, severe weakness, double vision, or sudden vision changes. New eyelid drooping or marked facial asymmetry should be reported, particularly when it affects sight, speech, or eating.
