What should you know about Botox for the platysma?

The platysma is a broad, thin muscle that runs from the lower face across the front of the neck. When it contracts strongly, vertical bands may stand out and the lower face can appear pulled downward. Botulinum toxin type A temporarily reduces signals between nerves and muscle at selected injection points. The aim is a measured change in muscle activity, not removal of the muscle or treatment of every cause of neck laxity.
