The label may refer to an alexandrite-style setting, a diode platform, or a device combining more than one wavelength. Those are not interchangeable descriptions, so ask for the device name and how its settings suit your skin and hair.

Hair-removal lasers deliver light that is absorbed by pigment in the hair shaft and follicle, creating controlled heat that reduces future growth. Hair colour, thickness, growth phase, skin tone, recent tanning, treatment area, and device settings all influence the response and risk of skin injury.

Cooling can improve comfort and protect the surface, but it does not remove the need for careful parameter selection. Very light, grey, white, or red hair may respond poorly because it contains less of the target pigment. Treatment reduces hair growth; it does not promise that every hair will disappear indefinitely.

Tell the practitioner about recent tanning, pigment changes, active rashes, cold sores in the area, scarring tendencies, pregnancy, and medicines or skincare that increase light sensitivity. Contact the treating clinic promptly if pain is worsening rather than settling, or if you develop blisters, open skin, marked swelling, crusting, unusual darkening or lightening, or signs of infection such as pus and spreading redness.
