Aster DM Healthcare will expand ProCare Hospital in Saudi Arabia from 100 to 209 beds, taking its Saudi capacity above 500 beds after a majority-stake acquisition announced on 10 June 2026.
For UAE healthcare executives, the number to remember is 109 net new beds. Zavis analysis finds the deal matters most to CEOs tracking Gulf expansion, CFOs watching Saudi referral flows, and HR leaders competing for consultants, nurses and cath lab staff.
What Aster bought
The acquisition was structured through a joint venture with Abdulrahman Saleh Al Rajhi and Partners Co. Group, according to the ZAWYA release. ProCare Hospital, founded in 2009 in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, will be rebranded as Aster ProCare Hospital. Aster DM Healthcare did not disclose the transaction value or the exact equity percentage.
Aster DM Healthcare said ProCare Hospital provides primary and secondary care across medical and surgical specialties, women's and children's health, cardiology, orthopaedics, emergency care, diagnostics and allied health. The company said it will add specialties, clinical governance standards and the myAster digital health platform at the site.
"The acquisition of ProCare Hospital reflects our confidence in the Kingdom's healthcare transformation journey."

The operating plan
Aster DM Healthcare's published plan gives COOs and clinical directors a clear benchmark because the expansion is specific. The company plans 209 licensed beds, including 60 critical care beds and 7 operating theatres. It also plans a cardiac catheterisation laboratory with Philips, emergency service expansion through Meta Build Co. for Contracting, and hospital modernisation with AMAQ Company for Contracting.
- 109 net new beds are planned at Aster ProCare Hospital.
- 60 critical care beds would equal almost 29% of planned licensed capacity.
- 7 operating theatres support surgical and cardiology volume growth.
- myAster is expected to be rolled out as part of the digital integration.
The cardiology focus should get attention from UAE hospital groups. Dubai and Abu Dhabi hospitals have built premium cardiac, neuro and surgical services partly on Gulf referral demand. A larger Aster DM Healthcare footprint in the Eastern Province could keep more Saudi patients in-country when payers prefer local treatment under Saudi Vision 2030 procurement and insurance priorities.
Why UAE operators should care
Aster DM Healthcare said its GCC and Jordan network includes 15 hospitals, 124 clinics and 333 pharmacies. Its UAE facilities operate across Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Department of Health Abu Dhabi (DOH) and Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) jurisdictions through brands including Aster, Medcare and Access. The Saudi acquisition moves that integrated model into a market with a larger population base and state-backed private-sector participation.
For CFOs, the first question is case mix. If Saudi capacity rises in cardiology, emergency care and critical care, UAE hospitals should stress-test outbound Saudi referral assumptions for 2026 and 2027. For HR leaders, the pressure point is consultant supply. A 109-bed expansion with a cath lab and critical care build-out will need cardiologists, intensivists, theatre nurses, biomedical engineers and revenue-cycle staff who are already scarce in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
For CIOs, the myAster rollout is the part to watch. Aster DM Healthcare is using digital access as a regional operating layer, rather than a UAE-only channel. That gives the company a patient-acquisition and retention tool across borders, while UAE operators still face separate integration requirements under DHA, DOH and MOHAP systems.
The next evidence points are practical: licence amendments, recruitment, payer contracting and construction timelines for the 209-bed plan. UAE hospital groups should monitor whether Aster DM Healthcare discloses a completion date, capex figure or utilisation target in 2026. Those numbers will show whether Aster ProCare Hospital can redirect Saudi patients, clinicians and supplier attention away from UAE providers.
