Arada's AED 2bn Reem Hospital deal targets 4 hospitals across UAE

Arada has bought more than 80% of Reem Hospital and pledged AED 2 billion to build a four-hospital UAE healthcare platform.

For healthcare executives, the number to remember is AED 2 billion: Arada is pairing a hospital asset with clinics planned for its master-planned communities in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah.

What Arada bought

Arada said on 7 May 2026 that it bought the stake from a consortium that included Investcorp, its affiliates and other shareholders. Financial terms were not disclosed. Reem Hospital founders led by chairman Zaid Al Siksek and board member Mansur Ali will remain in the business, according to Arada's announcement.

Reem Hospital opened on Reem Island in 2020 as a post-acute rehabilitation and multi-specialty hospital. Arada said the provider has more than 800 employees, including 120 doctors across 42 specialties, and treated more than 850,000 patients in 2025. Arada also said Reem uses AI-powered tracking and care programming systems, a detail CIOs should track as hospitals move AI into bed management, rehabilitation plans and follow-up care.

Where capacity is going

The first capacity test is Reem Island. Arada plans to double the facility to 200 beds and add specialty areas including women's health and pediatrics. The company also plans three more hospitals in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah over the next three years, plus a Reem Clinics network across the UAE.

• Abu Dhabi: Department of Health Abu Dhabi (DOH) approval will govern new hospital licensing, clinical scope and insurance-network participation.
• Dubai: Dubai Health Authority (DHA) licensing will determine facility classification, professional licensing and electronic health record obligations.
• Sharjah: Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) oversight will apply to private facility licensing and healthcare professional regulation.
• Group operations: hiring needs will rise across doctors, nurses, allied health and rehabilitation teams before each launch date.

The existing market is already weighted toward private care. The MOHAP 2023 statistical annual report counted 173 hospitals in the UAE, including 117 private hospitals. Private hospitals recorded 19,136,518 attendances in 2023, compared with 6,506,187 attendances at government hospitals.

Why operators should watch

The competitive question is whether Arada can turn residents and wellness customers into recurring healthcare demand. Hospital groups in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah already compete for outpatient visits, rehabilitation referrals and specialist access. A clinic network inside residential communities could shift first-contact care closer to the home, then send higher-acuity cases into Reem Hospital.

Reem Hospital's expansion will also test workforce supply. MOHAP reported 155,618 healthcare workers in the UAE at the end of 2023, including 31,844 medical doctors and 65,510 nurses. Abu Dhabi accounted for 42% of the health workforce, Dubai for 39% and Sharjah for 10%.

The next milestones are licensing and delivery dates. Operators should watch for DOH, DHA and MOHAP facility approvals, bed additions at Reem Island, the first Reem Clinics locations, and any phasing plan for the AED 2 billion commitment before the first new hospital opens.
