Albatha Healthcare has acquired Health First Pharmacy, taking its UAE retail network to 121 pharmacies and more than 15,000 customers daily.
For pharmacy chains, hospital groups and outpatient operators, the deal is a scale signal in a market where store density, insurer access, cold-chain controls and digital ordering shape margins.
What Albatha bought
The company did not disclose the transaction value in the Gulf News report published on 9 June 2026. Albatha Healthcare said the acquisition expands its national retail presence and supports access to community-based pharmacy services.
Health First Pharmacy was previously linked to Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries PJSC (Julphar) retail and distribution assets. In 2025, Julphar accepted a binding offer from Al Batha Healthcare Group for those assets, according to public company disclosures cited in the transaction coverage.
"The acquisition of Health First Pharmacy strengthens Albatha Healthcare's presence across the UAE and expands our ability to provide trusted, patient-centered care to more communities."
Hesham Abdalla, Managing Director, Albatha Healthcare
For CFOs, the missing number is the purchase price. The disclosed numbers still matter: a 121-store network gives Albatha Healthcare more purchasing leverage with manufacturers, higher route density for pharmacy logistics and a larger base for private-label, chronic-care and insurance-linked services.
For COOs, the operational question is whether Albatha Healthcare can standardise dispensing protocols, pharmacist coverage, controlled-medicine handling and temperature-sensitive inventory across all stores in 2026.
Why scale matters now
UAE pharmacy operators work across strict licensing regimes. The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) regulates pharmacies in Dubai, the Department of Health Abu Dhabi (DOH) regulates Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, and the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) regulates the Northern Emirates and federal pharmaceutical rules.
That creates a multi-regulator operating model for any chain with national coverage. Albatha Healthcare now has to manage compliance across at least 3 regulatory channels while keeping pricing, stock visibility and patient records consistent.
- 121 pharmacies are now inside Albatha Healthcare's UAE retail network.
- More than 15,000 customers are served daily across the expanded platform, according to Albatha Healthcare.
- 3 acquisitions have been announced by Albatha Healthcare in the past year, including Health First Pharmacy.
- 2026 is the year Albatha Healthcare said it is refreshing the Modern Pharmacy website and launching a mobile application.
The pharmacy deal follows other Albatha Healthcare acquisitions. In October 2025, the company announced the acquisition of Milab Scientific, a diagnostics and laboratory business with more than 40 years of regional experience. In February 2026, Albatha Healthcare acquired a majority stake in Insights Psychology, a neurodevelopmental and therapy provider.
The sequence gives executives a concrete competitor to watch: Albatha Healthcare is adding pharmacy, diagnostics and therapy assets inside one healthcare services platform.
Digital execution is the next test
Albatha Healthcare said it is advancing digital capabilities through a refreshed Modern Pharmacy website and a new mobile application. For CIOs, the acquisition turns pharmacy retail into an integration test across online ordering, delivery slots, e-prescription workflows, insurer approvals and stock substitution.
The regulatory angle is direct. DHA, DOH and MOHAP oversee providers that handle prescriptions, controlled medicines, cold-chain products and insurance claims. Acquired stores need auditable systems for clinical governance, inventory traceability and incident reporting.
For competitors, Albatha Healthcare's next move is the useful indicator. If the group uses Health First Pharmacy mainly to add locations, pressure will fall on rental economics and supplier terms. If it links the stores to diagnostics, behavioural health, chronic-care programmes and app-based retention, smaller chains will face a harder question in 2027: why patients should keep pharmacy, lab and follow-up care separate.
