Unlike countries with a national health service, the UAE relies on a private insurance model for expats. Your employer is required to provide health insurance as part of your employment package. The quality of coverage varies hugely — from basic Essential Benefits Plans (AED 150,000 annual limit, AED 20 co-pay) to premium plans with unlimited coverage and 0% co-pay. Negotiating better health insurance as part of your job offer is one of the most important financial decisions you can make as a UAE expat.

The UAE does not have a formal GP registration system like the UK's NHS. You are free to visit any insurance-approved clinic. However, it is strongly recommended to identify a regular GP or family medicine clinic for continuity of care. Many expats choose clinics near their home or workplace for convenience.
