Ordered by verification status and how complete each clinic's public record is, then alphabetically. This is a directory listing, not a ranking — Zavis does not rate or recommend providers.

A factual listing drawn from the DHA, DOH and MOHAP licence registers. It is not a referral, an endorsement, or advice that any of these providers is right for you.

The main difference

Diarrhoea means loose or watery stools, while unintentional weight loss is losing weight without trying or intending to do so.

They can occur together, but they describe different changes. Diarrhoea focuses on bowel habit and fluid loss; unintentional weight loss focuses on a sustained change in body weight, appetite, food intake or how the body absorbs and uses nutrients.

Diarrhoea is the better description when

Diarrhoea is the better description when your stool is loose or watery, you are passing stool more often than is normal for you, or urgency and cramping are the main changes. Short-lived diarrhoea can follow infection, food changes or a medicine, but the pattern still matters.

Sip fluids regularly and notice urine output, thirst, dizziness, fever, abdominal pain, mucus or blood. Keep preparing food safely and follow any specific fluid advice from your clinician or pharmacist.

Unintentional weight loss is the better description when

Unintentional weight loss is the better description when clothes become looser or a scale shows a downward trend despite no plan to lose weight. Appetite may be unchanged, reduced or sometimes increased, so do not rely on appetite alone.

Record when the change was noticed, changes in eating, swallowing, nausea, pain, mood, activity, medicines and other symptoms. A weight trend measured under similar conditions is more informative than a single isolated reading.

When to act quickly

Seek urgent medical care for severe abdominal pain, vomiting that prevents fluids staying down, fainting, confusion, black stools, blood in stool, or signs of marked dehydration such as very little urine with severe dizziness. Children, older adults and people with significant health conditions may become dehydrated more easily.

Arrange a medical appointment if diarrhoea continues, keeps returning, wakes you from sleep, or occurs with unexplained weight loss, fever or persistent pain. Unintentional weight loss also warrants assessment when it is ongoing or affects strength, appetite or normal daily activity.

When another symptom leads the story

Constipation, bloating, nausea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite and weakness are not the same as either symptom, although they may occur alongside them. Naming the leading concern and its timing can prevent an important detail being missed.

Diarrhoea without weight loss and weight loss without diarrhoea can each have many possible explanations. The combination does not identify one condition by itself; it signals that a fuller history may be needed.

What a clinician may assess

A clinician may ask about onset, travel, contact with illness, food and drink, medicines, bowel pattern, appetite and other symptoms. They may examine you and decide whether stool tests, blood tests, dietary review or other assessment is appropriate for your particular pattern.

Bring a list of medicines and supplements, a recent weight record if available, and notes on stool changes. Mention family history of bowel disease or cancer when relevant, without assuming that either symptom has a single cause.

Questions people ask

Can diarrhoea lead to weight loss?

Diarrhoea can affect food intake and hydration, and ongoing symptoms may contribute to weight change. Both symptoms together should be discussed with a clinician.

What should I note before a medical appointment?

Record stool changes, fluid intake, abdominal symptoms, appetite, medicines, travel, and the timing of any weight change.
