Eyelid surgery removes or repositions tissue through an operation, while plasma pen treatment creates controlled surface injury to tighten selected skin areas.

They are not interchangeable methods for every eyelid concern. Surgery can address excess skin or tissue and may be considered when eyelid anatomy is affecting appearance or function. Plasma pen treatment is a non-surgical surface procedure intended for selected skin concerns; it does not remove tissue in the way an operation can. Eyelid skin is thin and close to the eye, so suitability needs careful in-person assessment.

Eyelid surgery may be discussed for excess eyelid skin, tissue prominence, or eyelid changes that a surface treatment cannot correct.
